More From The Client Side – “Marketing Unleashed”

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

A couple of days ago we posted a link to Michal Seaton’s “Client Side“.

Today another, and a really good one called “Marketing Unleashed

This is by Gary Bembridge, Vice President Beauty Care EAME for Johnson & Johnson Beauty Care Business Unit.  Most of Gray’s career has been at J. & J. but has also worked with Unilever too.

Gary writes well about many things; marketing, advertising and PR, though not surprisingly with a lot of great content about brands, branding and the beauty business in particular.

Here’s an example of recent blog topics on brand and branding.

BRANDING & BRAND BUILDING ARTICLES

It’s good stimulating stuff, lots of examples, lots of ads.  Whether you are client side or agency side, or somewhere else, enjoy.

VW banner ad users twitter

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Very cool VW banner ad that recommends a car for you based on your own tweets. It’s a nice way to profile and segment. You are after all, what you tweet.

BTW, I’m a VW Rabbit but I so want to be a Scirocco.

Try it –> VW Banner Ad using tweets.

Ready To Rock?

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Into XBOX or PlayStation gaming?

If not, you might have seen the coin-operated equivalents of Guitar Hero or Rock Band in a shopping mall.  Pop a few baht in, fire up the electronic guitar and you’re famous.

Rock Band, released at the end of 2007, adds in a drum kit and vocals  to the guitar. In just 18 months over 30 million songs have been downloaded, allowing players to add extra songs to their repertoire of music.

The next big release, ie music game for Rock Band will be The Beatles on Tour.

Enjoy the trailer  below

Game to be released on 09.09.09

This will be big, and probably a hard day’s night for neighbors with thin walls.

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Just came across an interesting marketing/communications blog put together by Michael Seaton, a Canadian marketing professional who seems to have mainly worked “Client Side” hence the name of his blog.

You can check it out here.

Some recent sweet content includes the link to Coleman (camping equipment) on “The Original Social Network Site” and “Flutter” a new app. to take on Twitter.

Hard week ahead? Hopefully not too tough.

If you need a laugh, you might enjoy this bit of entertainment.

Thailand has “Academy Fantasia“, the US has “American Idol” and the UK’s got “Britain’s Got Talent“.

Here’s one of the funniest bits from the latest season.

Have a good laugh, have a great week.

Save The World in One Minute

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Some words from Ty Montague,  Chairman of JWT Worldwide Creative Council:

“Cannes 2009 is still a week and a half away, but JWT is already making headlines at the Festival, with the team of four talented, young creatives from our Kuala Lumpur office winning the “Young Lions YouTube 48 Hour Ad Contest.”

Their video, “Listen Don’t Watch,” was chosen among 692 entries from across six continents as one of two winners to be sent to Cannes to compete in the Young Lions Film Competition, where their creative talent will be showcased on the world stage for the biggest and brightest from the ad industry to see.

The YouTube contest began on May 15, when young professionals from around the globe were tasked with creating a video—in 48 hours—that inspired viewers to show their support for an upcoming climate change agreement by adding their name to the Oxfam Web site.

The team from JWT Kuala Lumpur took a direct approach, requesting viewers to open up another tab while listening to their video. You can view “Listen Don’t Watch”

on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S79k-mf0VwA.

Congratulations to the winning team: Adeline Chew (Art Director), Nadia McDonald (Writer), Sam Goh (Art Director) and May Ling Yong (Senior Writer).”

More on CSR in the future.

Ty is the moderator for the JWT Creative blog “thegoodstuff”, you can find it here.

The Power of Dreams

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I came across a wonderful quote on dreams by T.E.Lawrence aka “Lawrence of Arabia” which at least woke me up.

“All men dream: but not all equally.  Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find it was all vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”

Talking of dreams, my favorite campaign on the theme is Honda’s “The Power of Dreams”.   The “Cog” and “Choir” and “Love it, Hate It” versions seem to have scooped a whole sack of awards in recent years, though the I really love the simpler and much funnier one below.

Keep dreaming.

Someone has to.
