SixthSense Technology … Ok, Just Watch It!

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Here are a couple of videos which together make a TED Talk – this one by Pranav Mistry of MIT on SixthSense Technology.

Am for a rare moment a bit lost for words.

Its Open Source and will be made available to developers in a  few months.

Staggering!

Find Your Great Work

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Yesterday we shared Michael Bungay Steiner of www.boxofcrayons.biz video “The Eight Irresistible Principles of Fun”.

Today another from Michael, entitled “Find Your Great Work”.

Its full of great quotes, two that go together very well are:

“If everyone’s happy, then you’re not doing great work” and “To fly we have to have resistance”.

Lots more goodies inside.

The Eight Irresistible Principles of Fun

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I love this quote from the Eight Irresistible Principles:

“When all is said and done, more is said than done”.

How true!

This has very little to do directly with communications, marketing or business.  Just life, joy, fun.  The other important stuff.

Hope you enjoy.  Hope you are having fun.

Augmented Reality Meets iPhone and Helicopter

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Interesting little video of where video games step off off the computer screen and meet “real life”.

In this case the iPhone controls a helicopter using Augmented (aka Hyper) Reality.

Have seen lots of remote controlled helicopters in Bangkok, but nothing like this, yet.

Feel The Pain …. or Not

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Sweet, little, inexpensive, but bet it got a lot of people talking!

Here’s the video of a New/Innovative Media approach taken by Motrin, an analgesic (painkiller) brand in Canada.

Made me feel better.

The Ancient Greeks Would Be Stumped By This One

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Karolos Grohmanm of Yahoo Sports reports the following:

VANCOUVER, Feb 11 (Reuters) – Cricket was cleared to pursue its bid to be included in future Games after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) rubberstamped the sport’s recognition on Thursday.

Cricket, powerboating and sports climbing became the latest sports to be officially recognised by the IOC, a status necessary before launching a bid to become part of the Olympic programme.

“The session gave definite recognition to the three federations,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams told reporters.

The three sports can now bid to join the 2020 Olympics as the programme is always determined seven years in advance.

Golf and rugby were latest inclusions in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games when an IOC session voted them in last year.

The decision about new sports for the 2020 Games will be taken at the IOC session in Buenos Aires in 2013 where the host country will also be picked.

My, my, my what is the world coming to?  Apart from Cricket being probably the world’s most incomprehensible sport, lasts days and severely boring, who outside “The Commonwealth” plays it?

Let’s hope sense prevails in 2013.  That or a hard knock to the googlies.

Yes,  a highly personal view – but one from an Anglo-Australian at that!

The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I grew up with the fragrance of Old Spice wafting from the bathroom, my dad’s favorite.

Now available for over 70 years, this could be seen as a bit of an “old” brand, but 20 years ago P&G acquired the brand and is keeping it up to date both in its line-extensions, new products and communications.

Here is one of it’s latest ads, clearly communicating that Men should use manly body-wash if they want to smell like a man.

I suspect they are targeting both men and women (who until now have been happy for their men to smell like them).  Clever idea, your man could smell like this.

And funny too

Best of The SuperBowl?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

The jury is still out on the best of 2010 SuperBowl TV advertising.

Last year, maybe thanks to the depression of the recession, it wasn’t that fun a session.

This year, its a bit better but not too many brilliant pieces.  I confess I’ve only seen about 3/4 of them so far. So maybe I’m due a pleasant surprise, but the best of the show so far, at least for me, is this really simple spot for Google.
