Lovely “mockumentary” (mock documentary) from DDB LA for “Heal The Bay”, raising environmental awareness of the problem of plastic bags.

Voice over is by film and stage legend Jeremy Irons.

A Beastly Way To Exercise

By Iain White

I love this.

Sony has just launched a new Sat-Nav range, which included a bicycle mounted, water-proof version.

To encourage usage, they ahve pre-programed a range of cycling routes, which when completed, form the shape of an animal.  Hence the name “Tokyo Zoo”.

So far six animals/routes have been developed in Tokyo.

A really nice idea that could be done on any portable nat-sav (how about on mobile phones for joggers/walkers?)

Would make working out fun, great to share on social media, and pre-measured.

Leo Burnett celebrates its 75th Anniversary today.

A host of world famous characters such as the Marlboro Man, the lonely Maytag repair man and the Jolly Green Giant were created by the agency.

May the windy city fete your ongoing success.

You Need a Friend

To celebrate friendship day in Argentina, Coke introduced a double sized Coke vending machine.  Without a “leg-up” from a friend you can’t reach the coin-slot.  naturally the machine dispensed two drinks, one for you, one for your friend.

Keep Walking, Everyone Is

By Iain White

Thought it a little ironic that BBH who has done so much wonderful work for Levis over the years have recently been replaced.

One of my favorite recent pieces of BBH work is their much awarded “The Man Who Walked Around the World” film.  Click here

And here is Levis latest.  Not from BBH.  “Guy Walks Across America”.

The stop motion technique is interesting, but at least to me, not much else is. But what the hell do I know, in one week 800,000 people watched it.

Me, I’ll rather they walked around the world though and asked BBH to help them.

Kiva – The Loan That Keeps Giving and Giving

By Iain White
July 30th, 2010

I stumbled across Kiva.org a couple of years ago, but failed to sign-up due to problems with my Paypal account, now fortunately rectified.

What a great use of technology to aid the world’s less well off would-be entrepreneurs (and actual ones.)   Kiva.org (www.kiva.org) is an online system based in San Fransisco that unites anyone willing to make small interest free loans to entrepreneurs in some of the worlds poorer countries.

Am struggling to embed a sweet little film, that traces a $25 loan made in London to the recipient in Cambodia, but you can access it here.

Unlike a charitable gift, the loan is repaid (typically between 6-18 months) putting the money back into the lenders paypal account, which can then be withdrawn or hopefully re-lent to another worthy borrower.

So far around 400,000 people have received loans helping them set up or expand their small business. $150 million lent and people in 200 countries benefited.

Take a look, the interface is very easy to use and apart from being tempted to help you might get a rush of gratefulness for how lucky we are.
